I always think that Germans after losing WW 2 and Killing millions people must be stopped mention their dirty past. But still some Germans even now believe that Germans army was buch good man happened to fight to lost case. The still believe up to present time that killing in eastern front and Poland was made by SS and Werhmat didn't do anything wrong. people killed in Soviets they blame on Stalin and Hitler was savior in Europe from communism. I think that kind of thinking is Neo Nazi thinking. As after WW 1 Germans tried to change results and starting WW 2. As now after WW 2 Germans continue mention their dirty past and still trying change their criminal past. Thank good Soviet army is stronger then Germans and USA and Russia still friend. It only Europe as always tried poll them apart. Germans present time agresion I would accept with hapens. And maybe if they start war again would the best solution. But this Germans nationalist thinking I can't accept. first they say Stalin kill more then Hitler its means could do anything in Russia. That kind of thinking putting me to resent past. It like China would clam Mao could do anything after British did to them. Or African countries as Rwanda can say that killing still less harm them 500 years of slavery. Or after WW 1 Kaser would say it wasn't big deal black dead in Europe killed more or holly inquisitions. Killing after Genghis khan wasn't bad at all because he killed more. To be humans you don't need compare with someone and try killed more or less. Germans just couldn't forget that Hitler was monster and try to put him as Napoleon. I think even after 500 years German Hitler wouldn't be good as Napoleon. Second the say they army wasn't banch criminals and killers but was professional army where everyone was supermen. I couldn't agree with them. I still believe in god wining bad. As supermen who was good hero who fight for good. I never believe that good army could kill as Germans. It means they were just banch of war criminals who couldn't fight hard. bad could never win because they just fighting for stupid ideology and idea.

You have to talk about and study the past. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Glorification of Nazi Germany is sickening to me, as is glorification of Stalinist USSR. I think you are right: there ARE Germans who think all the soldiers were good guys. Most of them are 80+ year old men who pack up tour busses to visit "alte Breslau" in Poland every day before they die, and crazy skinheads running around major DDR cities. The SS were a bunch of b*s*ards who got what they deserved in the end, whether in this world or the next. However...to say 100% of the Wehrmacht as evil, I don't think I can really agree with. In Nazi Germany, you either obeyed the conscription order and reported for duty or you were shot. You yourself point out Hitler was the craziest person who ever walked the planet. I agree totally. You must also know Hitler at times killed entire families in front of objectors or insubordinate people. You protested or refused to serve, you'd either get shot or risk your whole family's death while you watched. Ask Gen. Rommel's son, and many more...

While I despise what Stalin did and what the USSR stood for from 1917-1991, I agree that they were sorely needed. We couldn't have won without them, and they without us. But I don't get this fear that Germany is trying to start a war again. Most German people are rational enough to be scared to death of another war ever happening again. A majority that I've ever dealt with or met are downright pacifists. I don't know were these fears of Germans today comes from. They are a very small group of nut-jobs with no massive Depression or Treaty of Versailles to rally around.

Stalin probably did kill as many, if not more, than Hitler. But I always keep this in perspective: Hitler was in power from 1933-1945. Stalin was in charge from 1924/1928-1953. That's a lot more time to kill people. Hitler was killing at a faster pace, I think, than the world has ever known. I pray that it will never be seen again.

I really don't see how that could ever happen. Napoleon was no saint himself, as you should know.

Again, I don't know who in their right mind denies the atrocities of the German military. They still hunt Nazis. Wish the same could be said for NKVD who committed war crimes. There were some professionals. They were usually eventually removed by Hitler (i.e. Admiral Raeder, Adm. Canaris, Field Marshal Rommel, Col. von Stauffenberg, etc.) and/or killed. And I think they did fight hard. I mean, look at what they did. They conquered most of Europe, including wide swaths of the USSR, and killed what, 27 million Soviet soldiers and civilians? The Soviet army weren't all saints either, raping babies in Berlin and all that. I think the Nazis were sick, but they weren't the only ones.
REMEMBER WHAT GEN. WILLIAM TECUMSEH SHERMAN SAID:

I don't see a problem in being proud of being German. We, Germans, have done much more than figure out ways to kill people. We have impacted the world in positive ways as in the automobile (1896), and the reformation for those that are not Catholic. Every nation has a past, some of it can be bad.

Please clarify whether the pride you are speaking about is only about being of German heritage and not seeking to reinstate the Third Reich.

You don't understand about a nation of immigrants. I remember your post making fun of Australians by parodying Yellow Submarine. These "volkish" folks have implanted memories of Germany passed down from 100 to 300 years ago; based on when their families left Europe. I'm lucky,my father was the immigrant, so when I think of Europe it's his memories of 1960 that shape my thoughts rather than 1880.

Correction, I personally did not make fun. I was mentioning a chant at a sporting event which did make fun. I have nothing but respect for Australia and Australians (beyond a Cricket context that is).

Why not the second reich? I am for Stolz as we Germans call pride. But no not for the Dritte Reich (third reich).

If your calling me American than your wrong. I was born in Hassmersheim, Germany (state of Baden-Wurttemberg) and immigrated forcibly at the age of four.

Your ignorance of America rivals mine of Britain; Do you mean what is known as the Middle West? Places like Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa? There are large so called German American communities in those states. But our real Hitler loving idiots seem to be on the Great Plains; places like Idaho and Wyoming. Come to the States some time, I'll treat for a pint of Newcastle Brown so you can find out it tastes good cold.

I would not try to explore the past of one country without trying to explain the past of my own. Please understand that the United States performed genisied against a people that no more deserved it than the jews did in WWII. And we did this for what? Expansion?

All people should be Proud of there past and Ancestors not who they are thats goes for Jewish,German,Russian....
Everybody has Blood on the hands of the past generations that have come and gone.....Get over it !!!!!!! What we should be more concerned about is making sure the terrors of the past never revisit us or our childerns childern and knock off the finger pointing and B/S that certain People , (Red Army being one) keep trying to push up on........

Ah ok. As I live in Colorado now, I don't know of any Nazis in the state unless you include the rulers of the Republic of Boulder as being close enough.
