It's pronounced "neh HALE em"

Just a note to say my wife and I were stunned last night when the narrator butchered pronouncing the name of the river that flooded Vernonia. I guess what surprised us was that given all the effort put into the show, the producers didn't think to give someone in Oregon a call to find out how to say Nehalem, a name that is likely to be mispronounced.

We just cracked up when we heard that last night. I don't get annoyed with them, I laugh at them. What is really the most amazing to me is that with all the time they spent with those guys, did they not once hear anyone pronounce Nehalem? Pretty dorky if you ask me. EDIT: Ya know what I would get a big kick out of? Hearing them try to pronounce Skamokawa -- Edited by badbitbucket at 05/19/2008 10:24 AM

Oh I'm sure they did.....too bad they didn't pass that information on to the narrator or make a notation in the narrator's script. you should hear how folks butcher Nisqually or Cuyahoga.

Years ago the movie "Starman" was shot and the whole thng centered around its locale in Northern Wisconsin. Sadly no one in Hollywood called anyone in Wisconsin to see how to pronounce Chequamegon. I mean, it's not a name that looks easy to pronounce, does it? What idiots. HA FWIW: it's "sha WHAM ig an" -- Edited by Mista Vern at 05/19/2008 11:10 AM

Additionally, our TV Guide referred to the town of "Veronica."

You would think names would be important. Example... Darrell Holthusen "hol-tuss-un" ...the correct pronunciation is "Hole-Two-Zen"...oh well!! -- Edited by JHolthusen at 05/21/2008 7:59 PM -- Edited by JHolthusen at 05/21/2008 8:03 PM

Jodie, if I were to pick just one person (well to go with Jay Browning, guess that's 2) to represent our industry from this show, Darrell would be my pick. I really appreciate his patience with his young hook tender. All the best from one end of the state to the other.

On the company website it ssays you rhusband is a "side rod"...uh what the heck is that? I have no clue what the job desc are, except the obvios like operator. They don't do a good job explaining what these men really do. Thanks
